Industrial Clay Styling Models

Industrial clay gives vehicle designers a surface they can sculpt, machine and revise during shape development. The model combines a stable supporting structure with foam bulk and a clay working layer for surface evaluation.

Engineering requirements

Support the design-review workflow

01 / SUBSTRUCTURE

Build a stable reference

Set the armature, base and datums before adding the foam core. The support must preserve the geometry while allowing access for clay application, machining and manual work.

02 / WORKING SURFACE

Machine, sculpt and revise the clay

Condition and apply the selected iClay grade according to its TDS. The clay layer supports CNC rough shaping and hand refinement, followed by scanning or surface review as required.

03 / MATERIAL CHOICE

Select the clay grade for the studio

Compare iClay 61M and iClay 61H using their handling instructions and the studio’s machining and finishing requirements. Foam and model boards serve as supporting materials rather than substitutes for the clay working layer.

04 / HANDOVER

Capture the accepted surface

Maintain reference points between the model, measuring equipment and CAD data. Repeated surface revisions belong to the styling process; a later rigid master is a separate tooling decision.
